Terms and Policies

The following are the Terms and Policies in effect during your stay with us at the Verona Lakehouse to ensure your safety and enjoyment as well as that of our neighbours. Please read the Terms and Policies carefully and contact the Property Manager if you have any questions or need clarification. The Property Manager’s contact information can be found at the end of this document.

Reservation Terms and Policy

Rates quoted are subject to change without notice and do not include HST (13%). All rates require a minimum three (3) day stay. Special packages and promotional rates are mutually exclusive.

All facilities are subject to availability and conditions. Verona Lakehouse is not responsible for any package components or recreational opportunities made unavailable due to weather or any circumstances beyond our control. Some limitations on usage may apply.

Check-in time is anytime after 4:00 p.m. (1600 hours). Should you arrive earlier than 4:00 p.m. we kindly request that you park your vehicle at street level, take a walk in the neighbourhood or visit the town which is a short drive away, while we ensure the house is perfect for your arrival.

Check-out time is no later than 11:00 a.m. (1100 hours). We request timely check-out as the cleaning staff and management arrives promptly at 11:00 a.m. Additional charges will be applied if Guest and Guest party do not check out by 11:00 a.m. A late checkout may be requested at time of booking and Host will notify Guest if available.

Payments and Deposits

Payment must be made in full at time of booking. A security deposit of five hundred dollars ($500.00) is required. The security deposit is fully refundable within 48 hours after check-out once it is confirmed the property is in the same state as it was rendered at check-in, meaning there are no damages to the property caused by the Guest, Guest party or their pets.

Cancellations

In the event of cancellation, the payment and security deposit will be refunded in full if cancellation is made 48 hours after initial booking when Verona Lakehouse receives a minimum 14 days notice; there is a 50% refund when Verona Lakehouse receives notice a minimum of 7 days prior to check-in; thereafter any prepayment will be non-refundable and only the security deposit and cleaning fee will be refunded. Should the Guest and Guest Party vacate the Property at any time before the Check-out Date, the Guest is still required to pay the full amount of Base Rent and Additional Rent owing, and the Host is not be required to refund any Base Rent, Additional Rent, or cleaning fee already paid. Security Deposit terms will apply.

Taxes

The Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) is 13% in Ontario. The tax applies to accommodation only and will not be applicable to food, beverages, activities, or other Host amenities that you may enjoy during your stay. The HST is a government mandated tax that is not directed by Verona Lakehouse, nor is it optional.

Smoking & Cannabis Use Policy

With respect for all guests, especially families with children, Verona Lakehouse is fully compliant with Smoke-Free Ontario Legislation therefore the smoking of any substance (including but not limited to tobacco, vaping, recreational and medical cannabis) is NOT permitted in any enclosed space on the property. This includes the garage, any room or hallway inside the Lakehouse, balconies and decks. Smoking is only permitted on our waterfront area. Disposal of cigarette butts or any debris into the lake is prohibited. Verona Lakehouse reserves the right to designate any area as non-smoking.

Bedrooms, Indoor Common Areas & Deck

Should smoking occur in any part of the Verona Lakehouse designated as non-smoking during occupancy, an additional charge of $500.00 will be added to the rental fee to cover the cost of cleaning.

Additional charges for cleaning of the Verona Lakehouse are as follows:

Additional charges will apply if further cleaning or replacement of materials is required in which case, the main registered guest would be liable for loss of business during such time as the Lakehouse is not available for guest use, or if compensation is required to be given to future guests who are negatively affected by the residual effects of smoking including adverse odours.

External Smoking Restrictions

Smoking of any substance is prohibited within 9 metres (30 feet) from any doorways of the Lakehouse to prevent inadvertent penetration of smoke into the Lakehouse.

Designated Smoking Areas

  •  A Smoking Area is located at the waterfront by the firepit
  •  Butts must be properly disposed of and not left on the grass or thrown into the lake or any neighbouring property

All other restrictions included in the Smoke-Free Ontario legislation and the federal Cannabis Control Act (Bill 36) are in effect.

Edible Cannabis – What’s Allowed, What’s Not

The following is a summary interpretation; it does not supersede any aspect of the Cannabis Control Act as outlined here:

  • Edible consumption of cannabis products is allowed in the Lakehouse.
  • People can consume edible cannabis for a medical purpose related to a disability anywhere on the premises.
  • The same intoxication laws that govern alcohol cover cannabis and all other drugs.

Lakehouse Conduct Policy

To ensure the comfort and safety of all of our guests, the following policies will be strictly observed during your stay:

  • Parents/Chaperones are responsible for the conduct of their children/group members at all times.
  • For their safety, when in the lake area, all minors, 12 years of age and under, must at all times be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years of age.
  • Lakehouse Quiet Hours begin at 11:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the next day.
  • We ask our guests to respect our neighbours by keeping the noise to an acceptable level throughout their stay. Please refrain from playing loud music, making excessive noise, and/or causing disturbances in the neighbourhood, especially during quiet hours. Should our neighbours contact us due to excessive noise, the guests will be contacted by the Property Manager. Receiving a second complaint will result in all Lakehouse guests being required to leave and no refund will be given.
  • The registered guest(s) is responsible for the behavior and actions of anyone in and visiting the Lakehouse and must ensure their visitors abide by all Lakehouse rules and regulations.
  • No confetti or Silly String is permitted in the Lakehouse, or common areas. If this policy is violated, the registered guest will incur an additional $250.00 cleaning fee.
  • It is the responsibility of the contract/conduct policy signee and/or onsite Guest representative/contact to distribute this information to all pertinent persons in the group.
  • Fireworks are strictly prohibited at all times anywhere on the property or at street level.

Pet Policy & Acceptance

Standard pets are welcome at the Verona Lakehouse (i.e. domesticated cats and dogs) to a maximum of two (2) pets per stay. When travelling with your pet(s), we want to ensure your family, our neighbours, and others visiting the cottage an enjoyable, comfortable, and safe stay with us and therefore we have established this pet policy for guests and pets staying with us.

  • Pets must be pre-registered (maximum of 2) to ensure a pet-friendly environment
  • Present your pet(s) at check-in and sign below confirming you agree with this pet policy and the designated areas at the cottage that are pet-friendly (based on season summer and winter).
  • Pet(s) must be fully trained and social with other animals and humans.
  • Pet owners must prevent noise or any other disturbance by pet(s), in the interest of our neighbours, including wondering into the neighbouring properties.
  • Pet owners are responsible to pick up after their pet(s) and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Pet owners are responsible if their pet(s) cause damage or if additional cleaning is required due to the pet(s) while on the property, or if discovered following their departure (a minimum charge of $250 will apply).
  • Pets should always be on leash or in a carrier unless while inside the Lakehouse.
  • Pets are to be taken off the property to relieve themselves so as not to damage or soil the grounds (children play here).

Privacy Policy

Your privacy is of utmost importance to Verona Lakehouse and, accordingly, we comply with current Canadian privacy legislation (PIPEDA). Moreover, we ensure the safeguarding of your personal information and implement our own best practices that are enforced across Verona Lakehouse and all of its brands. Specifically, following your implied and/or express consent, you may receive communication from us featuring various Verona Lakehouse offerings. At times, and following your consent, you may also receive news about collaborative promotions with very carefully selected Verona Lakehouse partners. However, at no time will we release your email address to any third party outside of Verona Lakehouse. Furthermore, please note that you may unsubscribe at any time by sending a reply email with the subject line: “Remove” so that you can easily withdraw your consent to receive further communication from us at any time.

What Personal Information is Collected

We interpret “Personal Information” as meaning information that specifically identifies a Guest or Guest Party as an individual or individuals and is provided to or collected by Verona Lakehouse. The type of Personal Information the Host collects, uses and discloses may include without limitation, an individual’s name, residential mailing address, residential phone numbers or email addresses, personal financial and credit information, verification of age for age-related programs, citizenship, place of employment, and personal preferences.
The Host collects and uses Personal Information for the following purposes:

  • To process a reservation.
  • Maintaining a record of our Guest’s stay with us for customer service and to better facilitate our Guest’s next check-in.
  • Meeting our Guest’s personal preferences and needs during their stay at the Verona Lakehouse.
  • Advising our Guest of goods and services offered by, or by arrangement with the Verona Lakehouse or its partners.
  • Improving the goods and services we offer to our Guest in the future.
  • Compliance with all municipal, provincial, federal, and other applicable laws regarding their stay at the Verona Lakehouse.
  • Advising Guests of present and future marketing campaigns by Verona Lakehouse or one of its Verona Lakehouse affiliates via newsletters and promotional materials.
  • Confirming information necessary for credit card transactions with our Guest; and
  • Such other specific purposes which are communicated to the Guest by the Host and its staff before collection.

How you may provide us with your Personal Information

  • By making a reservation, or by using Verona Lakehouse services, it is necessary to have your information in order to identify you, contact you and to process your purchase and requests. This information usually includes your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, credit card number and expiration date, and language preference. It may also include, if you choose to share that information with us, your preferences regarding the delivery of your service that you have requested and that may be available from time to time.
  • By providing it to us in communications regarding service delivery such as comment cards. Information provided to us in such a fashion will be used solely for the purpose of recording your comments, communicating with you in respect of them, reviewing them with personnel, for the purposes of recognizing employees for excellence of service delivery and for developing improvements in service delivery.
  • By providing the information to us by participating in a marketing initiative. To sign up for this service we require you to provide us with your e-mail address, first name, last name, language preference, and country of residence. You may unsubscribe at any time by responding with the subject line “Remove” on every e-mail message and you will no longer receive e-mail offers and promotions for the specified subscription or website, as the case may be. You may at any time in the future opt-in to receive e-mail offers.
  • We also partner with third parties to manage our advertising on other sites. Our third-party partners may use technologies such as cookies to gather information about your activities on this website and other sites in order to provide you advertising based upon your browsing activities and interests. If you wish to not have this information used for the purpose of serving you interest-based ads, you may opt-out by sending us an email to remove you from any list.

Links Provided to Other Sites

Verona Lakehouse may provide links to a number of other web sites that we believe will be of interest to you. However, those sites may not follow the same privacy policies as Verona Lakehouse. Therefore, we are not responsible for the privacy policies or the actions of any third parties, including without limitation, any web site owners whose sites may be reached through this Site, nor can we control the activities of those web sites. We urge you to contact the relevant parties controlling these sites or accessing their on-line policies for the relevant information about their data collection practices before submitting any personal information or other sensitive data.

Consent to Collect or Disclose Personal Information

The Host does not collect, use or disclose a Guest’s Personal Information without their knowledge and consent, except in certain extraordinary circumstances. Such extraordinary circumstances include without limitation, when legal, medical or security reasons make it impossible or impractical to obtain consent. We do disclose personal and other data to third-party service providers such as companies that provide website hosting, data analysis, payment processing, customer service, email delivery, marketing and other services.

Our Guests may choose to “opt out”, thereby withdrawing their consent at any time, subject to any legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. A Guest’s refusal to provide, or withdrawal of, his/her consent may affect the Host’s ability to provide the Guest with its services. The Host will inform the Guest of the implications of such withdrawal. To withdraw consent, a Guest should contact the Host.

Limitations on Collection and Retention of Personal Information

The Host limits the collection of a Guest’s Personal Information to that which is necessary for the purposes identified above in this Privacy Policy, or for any additional purpose identified to the Guest before collection of the Personal Information. As well, Personal Information is not used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was originally collected, except with the consent of the Guest or as required by law. Personal information is only retained as long as necessary for the fulfillment of these purposes.

We will retain your personal data for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

Completeness and Accuracy

The Host strives to ensure that Guest’s Personal Information is as accurate, complete, and up to date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is used.

Security Safeguards

The Host has security safeguards in place designed to protect against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification of Guest’s Personal Information in the care of the Host. The nature of the safeguards will depend on the sensitivity, format, location and storage of the Personal Information.

Guest Access and Accountability

The Host will provide a Guest access to their Personal Information in a timely fashion upon identity verification. The Host will correct or amend any inaccuracies in the Guest’s Personal Information. The Host will delete a Guests information upon request.

How to Contact Us

The Host is responsible for the Personal Information under its control and ensures that it complies with all applicable privacy legislation and the terms of this Privacy Policy. The Property Manager addresses and investigates questions or concerns regarding a Guest’s Personal Information.
